Has Your Make-Up Expired?

I have found myself emotionally attached to a treasured beauty product many times. Whether it's limited edition or it makes our hearts sink at the thought of the price.. I like to think we have all been there. Unfortunately, our make-up does expire and not only is it extremely unhygienic to continue using it but it can also cause skin reactions and horrible eye infections. To avoid all those nasties - here is a brief break down of how long you should  hold onto your products for before going your separate ways..

Foundation: 6-12 months (Water based products- 6 months)
Concealer: 6 months
Powders: 1- 2 years
Cream Based Products: 6-12 months
Lipstick: 12- 18 months
Mascara: 3- 4 months
Eyeliner: 3- 4 months
Organic/ Mineral Products: 6 - 8 months

The importance of throwing away your make-up isn't exaggerated yet it is something we don't tend to take as seriously as we should. Water based products have the least shelf life in comparison to tightly compressed powders not to mention mascara's and eyeliner being paradise for germs and bacteria. Try your best to keep on top of how long you have had things and just be aware or conscious of what you are using and when.

I have tried to cut the ins and outs so that you are armed with just the essentials and I really hope this has been useful. Remember, if it's got to go, get rid of it and don't look back - your face will thank you for it.

  1. Such a helpful little list! So difficult to remember how long I've had products for though, and I don't even own that many.
